Everything you need to know to start playing, scoring big, and mastering the art of trail enclosure. From your very first game to advanced strategies.
đ In This Guide
SECTION 01
CoilFun is a fast-paced reflex game where you control a glowing trail that follows your mouse cursor (or finger on mobile). Your goal is to enclose enemy orbs within the area created when your trail crosses itself.
When you create a loop with your trail, any blue orbs inside that loop are captured and destroyed, earning you points. The longer you survive and the more orbs you capture, the higher your score climbs.
The game ends when your energy bar reaches zero. Energy depletes slowly over time and drops sharply when you accidentally enclose a red bomb orb. Manage your energy wisely to survive as long as possible.
The game never truly ends until your energy runs out. Even if enemies explode, you lose energy but can keep playing. Focus on capturing orbs to earn energy back!
SECTION 02
CoilFun supports both mouse and touch controls, making it playable on any device. The controls are intentionally simple â the challenge comes from strategy, not complexity.
On mobile devices, use one finger to drag smoothly across the screen. Avoid lifting your finger mid-game as this may interrupt your trail movement.
SECTION 03
Click the large "âļ Start Game" button on the welcome screen. The menu will fade out and your trail will appear, following your mouse cursor or finger. You'll see the HUD at the top showing your energy bar, multiplier, time, and score.
Move your mouse (or drag your finger) across the game arena. Your glowing purple trail will follow your cursor with a slight delay for smooth movement. The trail leaves a visible path behind you â this is what you'll use to enclose enemies. You don't need to click or hold any button; simply moving is enough.
Blue glowing orbs will appear around the arena. These are your primary targets. They pulse gently and will explode after a set time if not captured. Red orbs are bombs â avoid enclosing them. Green orbs are moving enemies that drift around the arena. Orange orbs are moving bombs â the most dangerous type.
To capture enemies, you need to cross your own trail. Move in a curved or circular path that brings your cursor back to cross over a section of trail you've already drawn. When your trail crosses itself, the enclosed area fills with a glowing gradient â this is the capture zone.
Any blue orbs that are inside your loop when it closes are automatically captured and destroyed. You'll see them flash, emit particles, and disappear. A score notification will float up from the captured location showing your points. The game checks for enclosed enemies every other frame for performance.
Watch the energy bar in the top-left corner at all times. It depletes slowly over time. Capturing normal blue orbs restores a small amount of energy. Accidentally enclosing a red bomb drains 30 energy points instantly. The game ends when energy reaches zero, so keep capturing orbs to stay alive.
The multiplier dots in the HUD show your current score multiplier (up to 4x). Enclosing multiple enemies in a single loop increases your multiplier, dramatically boosting your score. The multiplier decreases when you enclose bombs. Aim for big loops that capture 2, 3, or even 4 orbs at once for maximum points.
Your trail has a fixed length â older sections disappear as new ones are added. This means you can't create an infinitely large loop. Plan your loops to be the right size to capture enemies without being too large to close quickly.
SECTION 04
There are four distinct enemy types in CoilFun. Learning to identify and react to each type is essential for achieving high scores and surviving longer.
The most common enemy. A stationary blue orb that pulses with a cyan glow. It will slowly grow in size as its timer counts down. When the timer runs out, it explodes, draining your energy. Enclose it before that happens to earn points and a small energy boost.
A dangerous red orb that looks similar to a normal orb but glows red. If you accidentally enclose a bomb orb in your loop, it detonates and drains 30 energy points â a significant penalty. Bombs appear less frequently than normal orbs (max 35% of enemies). Learn to distinguish the red glow quickly.
A green orb that drifts and bounces around the arena. Moving orbs appear after approximately 2 minutes of gameplay. They're harder to enclose because they move, but they're worth the same points as normal orbs. They bounce off the walls and gradually change direction. Anticipate their path to catch them.
The most dangerous enemy in the game. An orange orb that moves around the arena like a moving orb, but detonates like a bomb if enclosed. These appear at higher difficulty levels. They combine the unpredictability of movement with the devastating energy drain of a bomb. Avoid at all costs.
Blue = Safe. Red = Bomb. Green = Moving Safe. Orange = Moving Bomb. When in doubt, don't enclose it! A missed orb costs you nothing; an enclosed bomb costs 30 energy.
SECTION 05
The score multiplier is the key to achieving truly high scores. It ranges from 1x to 4x and is displayed as dots in the HUD. Each dot represents one level of the multiplier.
Building the multiplier: Enclosing multiple enemies in a single loop increases the multiplier. The more enemies you capture at once, the faster it builds. Enclosing 2 enemies at once gives a bigger boost than two separate single captures.
Losing the multiplier: Enclosing a bomb orb decreases the multiplier. Avoid bombs especially when your multiplier is high â the combined penalty of energy loss and multiplier reduction is devastating to your score.
A 4x multiplier with a 3-enemy capture gives you 360 points in one move. Compare that to three separate 1x captures worth 30 points each. Multi-captures are exponentially more valuable â always try to group enemies before enclosing.
SECTION 06
Energy is your lifeline in CoilFun. The energy bar at the top-left shows your current energy level from 0 to 100. When it reaches zero, the game ends immediately.
Passive Drain: Energy depletes slowly and continuously while you play. This creates a constant pressure to keep capturing enemies â you can't just hide in a corner and survive.
Visual Warning: When your energy drops below 30%, the energy bar turns red as a visual warning. This is your signal to prioritize capturing normal orbs to restore energy before it's too late.
+1 per normal orb enclosed
Start: 100 energy
-30 per bomb enclosed
-30 per enemy explosion
Slow passive drain
SECTION 07
CoilFun gets progressively harder the longer you play. The difficulty value increases continuously over time, affecting several aspects of the game.
The maximum number of enemies on screen increases as difficulty rises. Early game has 2-3 enemies; late game can have 5-6+ simultaneously.
The proportion of bomb orbs increases at higher difficulty. Early game is mostly normal orbs; later you'll see more red bombs mixed in.
Moving orbs and moving bombs only appear after approximately 2 minutes of gameplay. This gives beginners time to learn the basics before the arena becomes chaotic.
Enemy explosion timers tick faster at higher difficulty, giving you less time to plan and execute your loops before orbs detonate.
SECTION 08
Before creating a loop, move around the arena to position multiple orbs close together. Then make one large loop to capture them all at once for a multiplier bonus.
Always identify the color of orbs before enclosing. If you see red, steer your loop away. One bomb can cost you 30 energy â enough to end a struggling run.
Don't wait until the bar turns red to start capturing. Maintain a steady rhythm of captures to keep energy above 50% at all times for a comfortable buffer.
Smaller, tighter loops close faster and are easier to control. Use small loops for quick single captures when you're low on energy and need a fast restore.
Enemies can't escape to the corners. Herd multiple orbs into a corner, then make a sweeping loop to capture them all in one move for massive points.
Moving orbs follow predictable bounce patterns. Watch their trajectory for 2-3 seconds before attempting a capture. Lead the loop to where they're heading, not where they are.
Focus on multi-captures in the early game when there are fewer bombs to worry about. Getting to 4x multiplier early means every subsequent capture is worth 4x more.
The game's audio system provides feedback. A positive chime means a successful capture. A low thud means a bomb was enclosed. Use these cues to react faster without looking at the HUD.
Survive long + Build multiplier to 4x + Group enemies before enclosing + Avoid all bombs = Maximum score. The best players combine all four elements consistently throughout their run.
